Pet Parent FAQs

How do I find a Senior Dog Certified Vet?
Veterinarians and Veterinary Professionals who have completed at least one of the Senior Dog Veterinary Certification Courses are listed in our Online Directory.  You can search by state to see if there are any certified vets in your area!

Who can become Senior Dog Certified?
Veterinarians, Technicians and other Veterinary Support Staff members can become certified.  They must complete at least one of the Senior Dog Veterinary Certification Courses, which included a minimum of 7 hours of training.  Each will obtain their own certification to signify this achievement.

Does this make a vet a senior dog specialist?

Unfortunately, a specialization in senior dog care does not currently exist.  A specialist is a vet who has undergone a residency and passed a rigorous board exam.

However, certification means your vet has undergone a minimum of 7 hours of extra education and will complete additional courses pertaining to the care and advancement of senior dogs each year.  This is the highest level of commitment  that exists to elevating senior dog care at this time.

Does this pertain to cats?

As much as we love cats, we recognize they are their own species. While many of what we do translates to cats, the current certification is solely pertaining to dogs.
